Chraime
Chraime is a traditional Sephardic dish of fish cooked in a spicy tomato sauce. It's a popular dish for Shabbat and other Jewish holidays.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Fresh cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Diced tomatoes - 1 (14-ounce) can
- Tomato paste - 2 tablespoons
- Cayenne pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- White fish fillets - 4 (6-ounce)
Let's Get Started
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the garlic, paprika, cumin, and cayenne and cook until fragrant, about 1 minute.
- Stir in the tomato paste, diced tomatoes, water, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- Add the fish fillets to the skillet and spoon some of the sauce over the top.
- Cover the skillet and simmer until the fish is cooked through, about 10-15 minutes.
- Sprinkle the fish with the chopped cilantro before serving.
