This Chinese hamburger, also known as Rou Jia Mo, is a popular street food in China. It's made with flavorful stewed pork and served in a homemade flatbread.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Yeast - 1 teaspoon
- Flour - 2 cups
- Water - 2 cups
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Ginger - 1 inch, minced
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Chinese five spice powder - 1 teaspoon
- Soy sauce - 1/4 cup
- Pork belly - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- Cut the pork belly into chunks and place in a pot with the soy sauce, five spice powder, garlic, ginger, green onions, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 2 hours.
- While the pork is cooking, make the flatbread. Combine the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Gradually add warm water, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for 10 minutes, then place in a greased bowl and cover. Let rise for 1 hour.
- Divide the dough into 4 pieces and roll each into a flat circle. Heat the oil in a pan and cook each flatbread until golden brown on both sides.
- When the pork is tender, remove from the pot and shred with a fork. Serve the pork in the flatbread.
