Chinese BBQ Pork
This is a traditional Chinese dish, often enjoyed with rice or noodles. The pork is marinated in a sweet and savory sauce, then roasted to perfection.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Red food coloring - Optional, a few drops
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Chinese five spice powder - 1 teaspoon
- Soy sauce - 1/4 cup
- Honey - 1/4 cup
- Hoisin sauce - 1/4 cup
- Pork shoulder - 1.5 pounds
Let's Get Started
- Cut the pork shoulder into long strips, about 2 inches wide.
- In a bowl, mix together the hoisin sauce, honey, soy sauce, five spice powder, minced garlic, and red food coloring if using.
- Add the pork to the marinade and mix well to coat. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking tray with foil.
- Place the pork on the tray and reserve the leftover marinade.
- Roast the pork in the oven for 30 minutes, then brush with the leftover marinade and roast for another 30 minutes, or until the pork is cooked through and caramelized.
- Let the pork rest for a few minutes before slicing. Serve with rice or noodles.
