Catalan Cream Latte
A delicious and creamy latte inspired by the traditional Catalan dessert, Crema Catalana.
Ingredients - Serves 1
- Orange zest - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cornstarch - 1 teaspoon
- Egg yolk - 1
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Cinnamon - 1/4 teaspoon
- Vanilla extract - 1/2 teaspoon
- Milk - 1 cup
- Espresso or strong brewed coffee - 1 shot or 1/2 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until hot but not boiling.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolk, sugar, cornstarch, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly to prevent curdling.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until thickened and creamy.
- Remove from heat and stir in the orange zest.
- Brew a shot of espresso or strong coffee.
- Pour the espresso or coffee into a mug.
- Pour the creamy mixture over the espresso or coffee, stirring gently to combine.
- Optional: sprinkle some cinnamon or grated chocolate on top for garnish.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
