Canh Chua
Canh Chua is a traditional Vietnamese soup known for its balance of sour, sweet, and spicy flavors. It's typically made with fish, pineapple, tomatoes, and various herbs.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Red chili - 1, sliced
- Rice paddy herb - A handful
- Bean sprouts - 100 grams
- Okra - 100 grams
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Tamarind paste - 2 tablespoons
- Tomatoes - 2, quartered
- Pineapple - 1/2, cut into chunks
- Fish fillets - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, bring 1.5 liters of water to a boil.
- Add the fish fillets to the pot and cook until they become opaque. Remove the fish and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the pineapple, tomatoes, tamarind paste, fish sauce, and sugar. Simmer for 10 minutes.
- Add the okra and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Return the fish to the pot and add the bean sprouts, rice paddy herb, chili, and garlic. Cook for another 5 minutes.
- Adjust the seasoning with more fish sauce or sugar if needed.
- Serve the soup hot with steamed rice.
