Canelons, or Cannelloni, is a traditional Catalan dish typically served on Boxing Day. It's made with pasta tubes filled with roast meat and covered with béchamel sauce.

Ingredients - Serves 6

Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Cook the cannelloni tubes in boiling salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a pan, sauté the onion and garlic in a little oil until soft. Add the shredded roast meat and cook for a few minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  4. To make the béchamel sauce, melt the butter in a saucepan, add the flour and cook for a couple of minutes. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens. Season with salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg.
  5. Fill the cannelloni tubes with the meat mixture and place them in a baking dish.
  6. Pour the béchamel sauce over the cannelloni, making sure they are completely covered. Sprinkle with the grated cheese.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
