Canelons
Canelons, or Cannelloni, is a traditional Catalan dish typically served on Boxing Day. It's made with pasta tubes filled with roast meat and covered with béchamel sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Grated cheese - 100 grams
- Nutmeg - A pinch
- Milk - 500 ml
- Flour - 50 grams
- Butter - 50 grams
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Roast beef or pork - 500 grams, shredded
- Cannelloni pasta tubes - 18
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
- Cook the cannelloni tubes in boiling salted water until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a pan, sauté the onion and garlic in a little oil until soft. Add the shredded roast meat and cook for a few minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
- To make the béchamel sauce, melt the butter in a saucepan, add the flour and cook for a couple of minutes. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens. Season with salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg.
- Fill the cannelloni tubes with the meat mixture and place them in a baking dish.
- Pour the béchamel sauce over the cannelloni, making sure they are completely covered. Sprinkle with the grated cheese.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbling. Let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
