Cabbage and Cornbread Casserole

Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and cook until the onion is translucent.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  5. In a separate pot, bring water to a boil and cook the shredded cabbage for 5 minutes. Drain well.
  6. Prepare the cornbread mix according to package instructions.
  7. In a greased casserole dish, layer half of the cooked cabbage, followed by half of the ground beef mixture.
  8. Repeat the layers with the remaining cabbage and ground beef mixture.
  9. Pour the prepared cornbread batter over the top of the casserole.
  10. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese on top.
  11. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the cornbread is golden and cooked through.
  12. Garnish with sliced green onions before serving.
