Butterkuchen, also known as German Butter Cake, is a classic German baking delight. It's a yeasty cake with a rich, buttery topping.
Ingredients - Serves 12
- Pearl sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Almond flakes - 50 grams
- Egg - 1 large
- Butter - 200 grams
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Sugar - 75 grams
- Warm milk - 250 ml
- Active dry yeast - 1 packet
- All-purpose flour - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, yeast, warm milk, sugar, salt, and egg. Knead until a smooth dough forms.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Roll out the dough on the prepared baking tray. Using your fingers, make small indentations in the dough.
- Melt the butter and pour it evenly over the dough. Sprinkle the almond flakes and pearl sugar on top.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
- Allow the cake to cool before cutting into squares and serving.
