Bunuelos
Bunuelos are a traditional Mexican dessert made of fried dough balls coated in cinnamon sugar.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Milk - 1 cup
- Egg - 1
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 2 teaspoons
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg and milk together.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
- Take small portions of the dough and shape them into balls.
- Carefully drop the dough balls into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Remove the bunuelos from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- In a shallow dish, mix together the cinnamon and sugar.
- While the bunuelos are still warm, roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture until coated.
- Serve the bunuelos warm and enjoy!
