British Scones
These British scones are light, fluffy, and perfect for afternoon tea.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Jam or clotted cream - For serving
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Egg - 1
- Milk - 1/2 cup
- Granulated sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Unsalted butter - 1/4 cup, cold and cubed
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 2 teaspoons
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the granulated sugar.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
- Pour the milk mixture into the flour mixture. Stir until just combined.
- Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead the dough a few times until it comes together.
- Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle. Use a round biscuit cutter to cut out scones.
- Place the scones onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.
- Serve warm with jam or clotted cream.
