Brioche
This classic French brioche is a rich and buttery bread with a tender crumb.
Ingredients - Serves 12
- Milk - 1/4 cup, warm
- Unsalted butter - 1/2 cup, softened
- Eggs - 4, at room temperature
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Active dry yeast - 2 1/4 teaspoons
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- All-purpose flour - 4 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add the eggs and milk to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.
- Add the softened butter and knead the dough for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a ball and place them in a greased brioche pan or muffin tin.
- Cover the pan with a towel and let the dough rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the brioche for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before serving.
