Braised Pork Belly
This braised pork belly recipe results in tender and flavorful meat with a rich and savory sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Chicken broth - 2 cups
- Cinnamon stick - 1
- Star anise - 2 pieces
- Ginger - 1-inch piece, grated
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Brown sugar - 1/4 cup
- Soy sauce - 1/2 cup
- Pork belly - 2 pounds
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 325°F.
- In a large oven-safe pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
- Season the pork belly with salt and pepper, then sear it in the pot until browned on all sides.
- Remove the pork belly from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the garlic and ginger, and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Add the soy sauce, brown sugar, star anise, cinnamon stick, and chicken broth to the pot. Stir to combine.
- Return the pork belly to the pot, cover with a lid, and transfer to the preheated oven.
- Braise the pork belly in the oven for 2.5-3 hours, or until the meat is tender and easily pulls apart.
- Remove the pot from the oven and let the pork belly rest for a few minutes.
- Using a slotted spoon, transfer the pork belly to a cutting board and slice into desired portions.
- Serve the braised pork belly with the sauce from the pot, garnished with chopped green onions.
