Beef Wellington
Beef Wellington is a classic British dish made with tender beef fillet, savory mushroom duxelles, and flaky puff pastry.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Puff pastry - 1 sheet
- Dijon mustard - 2 tablespoons
- Thyme - 1 teaspoon, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Shallots - 2, finely chopped
- Mushrooms - 8 ounces, finely chopped
- Beef fillet - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 400°F.
- Season the beef fillet with salt and pepper.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over high heat. Sear the beef fillet on all sides until browned. Remove from the skillet and let it cool.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped mushrooms, shallots, garlic, and thyme. Cook until the mushrooms release their moisture and the mixture becomes dry. Remove from heat and let it cool.
- Spread Dijon mustard evenly over the cooled beef fillet.
- Roll out the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Place the mushroom mixture in the center of the pastry sheet.
- Place the beef fillet on top of the mushroom mixture.
- Wrap the puff pastry around the beef, sealing the edges tightly.
- Brush the beaten egg over the puff pastry to give it a golden color.
- Place the wrapped beef Wellington on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and the beef is cooked to your desired doneness.
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
- Serve the beef Wellington sliced, and enjoy!
