Beef Stroganoff
A classic Russian dish of sautéed pieces of beef served in a sauce with sour cream. From its origins in mid-19th-century Russia, it has become popular around the world.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Egg noodles - 1 pound, cooked
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Sour cream - 1 cup
- Beef broth - 1 cup
- Flour - 2 tablespoons
- Mushrooms - 1 cup, sliced
- Onions - 1 large, thinly sliced
- Butter - 4 tablespoons
- Beef sirloin - 1 pound, thinly sliced
Let's Get Started
- In a large skillet, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the beef and cook until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, melt the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter. Add the onions and mushrooms and cook until tender.
- Stir in the flour until well blended. Gradually stir in the beef broth and bring to a boil, stirring constantly.
- Return the beef to the skillet. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
- Stir in the sour cream and season with salt and pepper. Cook and stir until heated through. Do not boil.
- Serve the beef stroganoff over the cooked egg noodles.
