Banketstaaf
Banketstaaf is a traditional Dutch pastry that is filled with almond paste and wrapped in a buttery puff pastry. It's typically served during the Christmas season.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Powdered sugar - For dusting
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Almond paste - 400 grams
- Puff pastry - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Roll out the puff pastry into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread the almond paste evenly over the puff pastry, leaving a 1 inch border around the edges.
- Roll up the puff pastry tightly, starting from one of the long sides, to form a log.
- Place the pastry log on the prepared baking sheet, seam side down.
- Brush the pastry log with the beaten egg.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and puffed.
- Allow the pastry log to cool slightly, then dust with powdered sugar before serving.
