Banh Chung
This traditional Vietnamese dish is made with sticky rice, mung beans, and pork wrapped in banana leaves.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Banana leaves - 2 large
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Fish sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, diced
- Ground pork - 1 pound
- Mung beans - 1 cup
- Sticky rice - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Soak the sticky rice and mung beans in separate bowls of water overnight.
- In a large bowl, combine the pork, onion, garlic, fish sauce, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Drain the sticky rice and mung beans and add to the pork mixture. Mix until well combined.
- Lay out the banana leaves and spoon the mixture into the center of each leaf.
- Fold the banana leaves into a square and tie with kitchen twine.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the banh chung. Simmer for 6 hours.
- Remove the banh chung from the pot and let cool before serving.
