  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. While the cake is baking, prepare the bananas foster topping. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
  9. Add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Add the sliced bananas and cook for 2-3 minutes, until softened.
  10. Carefully add the rum to the skillet and ignite with a long match or lighter. Allow the flames to burn out.
