- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1 1/2 teaspoons
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the mashed bananas and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the banana mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
- Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the bananas foster topping. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the brown sugar and stir until dissolved. Add the sliced bananas and cook for 2-3 minutes, until softened.
- Carefully add the rum to the skillet and ignite with a long match or lighter. Allow the flames to burn out.
- Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then, transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Once the cake has cooled, pour the bananas foster topping over the cake, spreading it evenly.
- Serve the Bananas Foster Cake with a dollop of whipped cream on top.
- Enjoy!
