Bananas Foster
Bananas Foster is a classic New Orleans dessert made with bananas and rum, served over ice cream.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vanilla ice cream - 1 quart
- Banana liqueur - 1/4 cup
- Dark rum - 1/4 cup
- Bananas - 4, ripe and sliced lengthwise
- Cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Brown sugar - 2/3 cup
- Unsalted butter - 1/4 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a large, deep skillet over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in sugar, cinnamon, and banana liqueur.
- When mixture begins to bubble, place bananas and cook until caramelized, about 3 minutes each side.
- Carefully add the rum to the skillet. If the sauce is hot enough, it will flame on its own. If not, using stick flame, carefully ignite and continue cooking until flame dies out, approximately 1 to 2 minutes.
- Divide the ice cream among dessert dishes. Spoon the banana mixture over the ice cream and serve immediately.
