Bacon Collard Greens
A southern classic side dish, these collard greens are cooked with bacon for a smoky, savory flavor.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Apple cider vinegar - 1 tablespoon
- Chicken broth - 2 cups
- Collard greens - 1 bunch, stems removed and leaves chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, chopped
- Bacon - 4 slices
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the pot and set aside.
- In the same pot, add the chopped onion and cook until softened.
- Add the minced garlic to the pot and cook for another minute.
- Add the chopped collard greens to the pot and stir until they start to wilt.
- Add the chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, and a pinch of salt and pepper to the pot. Stir to combine.
- Cover the pot and reduce the heat to low. Let the greens simmer for about 45 minutes, or until they are tender.
- Crumble the cooked bacon and stir it into the greens before serving.
