Baba Au Rhum
Baba au Rhum is a rich and moist dessert soaked in a rum syrup. It's a classic French dessert that is sure to impress your guests.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 1 cup
- Rum - 1 cup
- Butter - 1/2 cup, melted
- Eggs - 3
- Active dry yeast - 1 packet
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- All-purpose flour - 1 1/2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Add the eggs and melted butter to the flour mixture and mix until a dough forms.
- Cover the bowl with a towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 2 hours, or until it has doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a baba mold.
- Transfer the dough to the prepared mold and bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.
- While the baba is baking, make the rum syrup. In a saucepan, combine the rum, water, and vanilla extract. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Remove the baba from the oven and immediately pour the hot rum syrup over it, making sure to cover it completely. Let it soak for at least 1 hour before serving.
