Aloo Gosht
Aloo Gosht is a spicy, hearty meat and potato curry that's commonly enjoyed in India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh. It's a one-pot dish that's cooked slowly to get the most flavor out of the ingredients.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Fresh coriander - For garnish
- Oil - 3 tablespoons
- Salt - To taste
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Ginger - 1 inch piece, grated
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Tomatoes - 2 large, finely chopped
- Onions - 2 large, finely chopped
- Potatoes - 4 medium, peeled and quartered
- Lamb or beef - 500 grams, cut into pieces
Let's Get Started
- Heat the oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until golden brown.
- Add the ginger and garlic and cook for a few more minutes.
- Add the meat to the pot and cook until it changes color.
- Add the tomatoes, red chili powder, turmeric, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the spices are well blended.
- Add the potatoes and enough water to cover the ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the meat and potatoes are tender and the flavors are well combined.
- Garnish with fresh coriander before serving.
