Agedashi Tofu
Agedashi Tofu is a popular Japanese appetizer dish, featuring lightly fried tofu cubes in a flavorful dashi sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Bonito flakes - A handful
- Daikon radish - 1/4, grated
- Green onions - 2, finely chopped
- Mirin - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Dashi - 2 cups
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Cornstarch - 1/2 cup
- Firm tofu - 1 block
Let's Get Started
- Drain the tofu and cut into cubes. Pat dry with paper towels.
- Dredge the tofu cubes in cornstarch, shaking off the excess.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the tofu cubes until golden brown on all sides. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In a small saucepan, combine the dashi, soy sauce, and mirin. Bring to a simmer.
- Place the fried tofu in serving bowls. Pour the dashi mixture over the tofu.
- Top with the chopped green onions, grated daikon radish, and bonito flakes. Serve immediately.
