Agedashi Tofu
Agedashi Tofu is a popular Japanese appetizer dish, featuring lightly fried tofu cubes in a flavorful soy-based broth.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Bonito flakes - A handful
- Daikon radish - 1/4, grated
- Green onions - 2, finely chopped
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Mirin - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Dashi stock - 2 cups
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Cornstarch - 1/2 cup
- Firm tofu - 1 block
Let's Get Started
- Drain the tofu and cut into cubes. Pat dry with paper towels.
- Coat the tofu cubes in cornstarch.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan and fry the tofu cubes until golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In a pot, combine the dashi stock, soy sauce, mirin, and sugar. Bring to a boil.
- Place the fried tofu in serving bowls. Pour the hot broth over the tofu.
- Top with the green onions, grated daikon radish, and bonito flakes before serving.
