Saag Paneer

Saag Paneer is a classic Indian dish of cooked spinach studded with cubes of fried paneer cheese. Thickened with cream or coconut milk, it's a hearty and filling vegetarian meal.

Ingredients

  • Salt - To taste
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Ginger - 1 inch piece, grated
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Tomato - 1 large, finely chopped
  • Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
  • Spinach - 500 grams
  • Paneer cheese - 200 grams

Instructions

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the paneer and fry until golden brown on all sides. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  2. In the same pan, add the remaining oil and the cumin seeds. Once they start to sizzle, add the onion and cook until it starts to brown.
  3. Add the garlic, ginger, and green chili to the pan and cook for another minute.
  4. Add the tomato, garam masala, turmeric, and salt to the pan and cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  5. Add the spinach to the pan and cook until it wilts down. Then, blend the mixture until smooth using a hand blender.
  6. Add the fried paneer to the pan and stir well to combine. Cook for another 5 minutes, then serve hot with rice or naan.
