Riso al Forno

Riso al Forno is a classic Italian baked rice dish, perfect for a comforting meal. It's packed with flavors from the tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil.

Ingredients

  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Basil leaves - A handful, chopped
  • Mozzarella cheese - 1 cup, shredded
  • Tomato sauce - 1 cup
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1, finely chopped
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Arborio rice - 1 cup

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large pot, bring water to a boil. Add the rice and cook until al dente, about 15 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  4. Add the tomato sauce to the skillet and stir to combine. Cook for another 5 minutes.
  5. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice, tomato sauce mixture, half of the mozzarella, basil, salt, and pepper. Stir until well combined.
  6. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and top with the remaining mozzarella.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving.
