Indian Chana Masala

Chana Masala is a popular Indian dish made with chickpeas cooked in a flavorful blend of spices and served with rice or naan bread.

Ingredients

  • Cooked rice or naan bread - For serving
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Salt - To taste
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chilies - 2, slit
  • Tomatoes - 2 medium, chopped
  • Ginger - 1-inch piece, grated
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
  • Chickpeas - 2 cups, cooked

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add minced garlic and grated ginger. Cook for another minute.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes and green chilies. Cook until tomatoes are soft.
  6. Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, and garam masala. Mix well.
  7. Add cooked chickpeas and salt. Stir to coat the chickpeas with the spices.
  8. Cover the pan and simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to blend together.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro and drizzle with lemon juice.
  10. Serve hot with cooked rice or naan bread.
