Channa Masala

Channa Masala is a popular Indian dish made with chickpeas cooked in a flavorful tomato-based sauce.

Ingredients

  • Water - 1/2 cup
  • Oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Salt - To taste
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chilies - 2, slit
  • Tomatoes - 2 medium, chopped
  • Ginger - 1-inch piece, grated
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
  • Chickpeas - 2 cups, cooked

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add minced garlic and grated ginger. Sauté for a minute.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes and green chilies. Cook until tomatoes are soft and mushy.
  6. Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well.
  7. Add cooked chickpeas and water. Stir well and simmer for 10-15 minutes.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro and lemon juice.
  9. Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
