Chana Masala

Chana Masala is a popular Indian dish made with chickpeas cooked in a flavorful tomato-based sauce.

Ingredients

  • Water - 1/2 cup
  • Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
  • Fresh cilantro - 2 tablespoons, chopped
  • Salt - To taste
  • Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Tomatoes - 2 medium, chopped
  • Ginger - 1-inch piece, grated
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
  • Chickpeas - 2 cups, cooked

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a large pan over medium heat.
  2. Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
  3. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add minced garlic, grated ginger, and green chili. Sauté for a minute.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft and mushy.
  6. Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well.
  7. Add cooked chickpeas and water. Stir to combine.
  8. Cover the pan and simmer for 15-20 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.
  9. Sprinkle garam masala and mix well.
  10. Garnish with fresh cilantro and drizzle with lemon juice.
  11. Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
