Gyro Burger

A delicious fusion of the classic Greek gyro and an American burger. This recipe combines ground lamb and beef, seasoned with traditional gyro seasonings, and served on a warm pita with tzatziki sauce.

Ingredients

  • Red onion - 1/2, thinly sliced
  • Tomato - 1, sliced
  • Lettuce - 1 cup, shredded
  • Tzatziki sauce - 1/2 cup
  • Pita bread - 4 pieces
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Ground cumin - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Ground beef - 1/2 pound
  • Ground lamb - 1/2 pound

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground lamb, ground beef, garlic, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  2. Form the mixture into 4 patties.
  3. Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
  4. Cook the patties for about 5-7 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
  5. Warm the pita bread on the grill for about 1 minute on each side.
  6. Spread each pita with a generous amount of tzatziki sauce.
  7. Place a cooked patty on each pita and top with lettuce, tomato, and onion.
  8. Fold the pita around the burger and toppings, and serve.
