Gyro

This delicious Greek gyro is made with marinated grilled meat, tzatziki sauce, and fresh vegetables, all wrapped in a warm pita bread.

Ingredients

  • Pita bread - 4
  • Salt and pepper - To taste
  • Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
  • Fresh parsley - 1/4 cup, chopped
  • Cucumber - 1, sliced
  • Tomato - 1, sliced
  • Red onion - 1, thinly sliced
  • Lamb or chicken - 1 pound, thinly sliced
  • Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
  • Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
  • Greek yogurt - 1 cup

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, lemon juice, minced garlic, and salt. Mix well to make the tzatziki sauce.
  2. In a separate bowl, combine the olive oil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Add the sliced lamb or chicken and marinate for at least 1 hour.
  3. Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated meat for 3-4 minutes per side, or until cooked through.
  4. Warm the pita bread in a toaster or on the grill for a few seconds.
  5. Spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on each pita bread.
  6. Top with the cooked meat, sliced red onion, tomato, cucumber, and fresh parsley.
  7. Fold the pita bread in half and serve immediately.
