Chanasan Makh

Chanasan Makh is a delicious Indian dish made with chickpeas cooked in a creamy tomato and cashew sauce.

Ingredients

  • Water - 1/2 cup
  • Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Fresh cilantro - For garnish
  • Salt - To taste
  • Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Cumin powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green chili - 1, finely chopped
  • Garlic - 3 cloves, minced
  • Ginger - 1-inch piece, grated
  • Cashews - 1/4 cup, soaked
  • Tomatoes - 2 medium, pureed
  • Onion - 1 large, finely chopped
  • Chickpeas - 2 cups, cooked

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add the grated ginger, minced garlic, and chopped green chili. Sauté for another minute.
  4. Add the pureed tomatoes and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
  5. In a blender, blend the soaked cashews with water to make a smooth paste.
  6. Add the cashew paste to the pan and mix well.
  7. Add the turmeric powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, garam masala, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes.
  8. Add the cooked chickpeas and mix well to coat them with the masala.
  9. Add water and simmer for 10-15 minutes, until the gravy thickens.
  10. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with rice or naan.
