Youtiao
Youtiao, also known as Chinese doughnut, is a long golden-brown deep-fried strip of dough. It is a popular breakfast staple in China and is often served with soy milk or porridge.
Ingredients - Serves 10
- Vegetable oil - For deep frying
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking soda - 1/2 teaspoon
- Baking powder - 1 teaspoon
- Water - 1 cup
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the water to the flour mixture, stirring constantly until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 2 hours.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 375°F (190°C).
- Divide the dough into 10 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long strip.
- Fry the dough strips in the hot oil until they are golden brown, about 2 minutes on each side.
- Drain the youtiao on paper towels and serve warm.
