Vermont Cheddar Mac & Cheese
A creamy, cheesy, and comforting dish made with sharp Vermont cheddar and elbow macaroni.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Bread crumbs - 1/2 cup
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Vermont cheddar cheese - 2 cups, shredded
- Milk - 2 cups
- All-purpose flour - 2 tablespoons
- Butter - 4 tablespoons
- Elbow macaroni - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Cook the elbow macaroni according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour until smooth.
- Gradually whisk in the milk. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer, stirring constantly, until thickened.
- Remove from the heat and stir in the cheddar cheese until melted. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until well coated.
- Transfer the macaroni and cheese to a baking dish. Sprinkle with the bread crumbs.
- Bake for 20 minutes, or until the top is golden and bubbly.
