Tarte aux Pommes
Tarte aux Pommes is a classic French apple tart made with a buttery pastry crust and thinly sliced apples.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Powdered sugar - For dusting
- Apricot jam - 2 tablespoons
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Apples - 4 large, thinly sliced
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Granulated sugar - 1/4 cup
- Unsalted butter - 1/2 cup, cold and cubed
- All-purpose flour - 1 1/2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, granulated sugar, and salt.
- Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Add the beaten egg to the mixture and mix until the dough comes together.
- Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a circle large enough to fit into a 9-inch tart pan.
- Transfer the rolled-out dough to the tart pan and press it into the bottom and sides of the pan.
- In a bowl, toss the thinly sliced apples with lemon juice to prevent browning.
- Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern on top of the tart dough.
- Bake the tart in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the apples are tender.
- While the tart is still warm, heat the apricot jam in a small saucepan until melted.
- Brush the melted apricot jam over the top of the tart to give it a glossy finish.
- Allow the tart to cool slightly before serving.
- Dust the tart with powdered sugar before serving.
- Serve the Tarte aux Pommes warm or at room temperature.
