Tacos Ticos
Tacos Ticos are a popular street food in Costa Rica. They are made with corn tortillas, filled with meat, and then deep-fried until crispy.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Cheese - 1 cup, shredded
- Tomato - 1, diced
- Lettuce - 1 cup, shredded
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Cumin - 1 teaspoon
- Tomato sauce - 1 cup
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Ground beef - 1 pound
- Corn tortillas - 12
Let's Get Started
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium heat until the beef is no longer pink.
- Stir in the tomato sauce, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for a few more minutes until the flavors are well combined.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F.
- Place a spoonful of the beef mixture onto each tortilla, fold in half, and secure with a toothpick.
- Fry the tacos in the hot oil until crispy and golden, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Drain on paper towels and remove the toothpicks.
- Top with lettuce, tomato, and cheese before serving.
