- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, chopped
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Swiss chard - 1 bunch, stems removed and leaves chopped
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the onion and garlic and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the Swiss chard and cook until wilted, about 3-4 minutes.
- Remove from heat and set aside.
- In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the bread cubes, followed by half of the Swiss chard mixture, and half of the grated Gruyere cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread, Swiss chard, and cheese layers in the baking dish.
- Press down gently to ensure the bread is soaked in the egg mixture.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and let it sit for 15 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the strata is set.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Slice into portions and serve warm.
