This delicious Swiss chard and bacon strata is a savory breakfast casserole that is perfect for brunch or a weekend family meal.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Dijon mustard - 1 tablespoon
- Milk - 2 cups
- Eggs - 6
- Cheddar cheese - 1 cup, shredded
- Bread - 6 cups, cubed
- Bacon - 6 slices, cooked and crumbled
- Swiss chard - 1 bunch, stems removed and leaves chopped
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- In a large skillet, sauté the Swiss chard until wilted. Remove from heat and set aside.
- In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the bread cubes, half of the cooked Swiss chard, half of the crumbled bacon, and half of the shredded cheddar cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layered ingredients in the baking dish.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and let it sit in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or overnight to allow the bread to absorb the egg mixture.
- Bake the strata in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the center is set.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
- Slice into squares and serve warm. Enjoy!
