Smoked Chicken
This smoked chicken recipe results in tender and flavorful chicken with a smoky aroma.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Wood chips (hickory or apple) - 2 cups, soaked in water
- Cayenne pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Onion powder - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic powder - 1 tablespoon
- Paprika - 1 tablespoon
- Black pepper - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 2 tablespoons
- Whole chicken - 1 (about 4 pounds)
Let's Get Started
- Preheat your smoker to 225°F.
- Rinse the chicken and pat it dry with paper towels.
- In a small bowl, mix together the salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper to create a dry rub.
- Rub the dry rub all over the chicken, including under the skin and inside the cavity.
- Place the soaked wood chips in the smoker's wood chip box or directly on the coals.
- Place the chicken on the smoker rack, breast side up.
- Close the smoker and let the chicken smoke for approximately 3 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.
- Remove the chicken from the smoker and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving.
