Pretzels
These homemade soft pretzels are warm, salty, and perfectly chewy.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Coarse salt - For sprinkling
- Baking soda - 1/4 cup
- Melted butter - 4 tablespoons
- Salt - 2 teaspoons
- All-purpose flour - 4 1/2 cups
- Active dry yeast - 2 teaspoons
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Warm water - 1 1/2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for 5 minutes.
- Add the flour, salt, and melted butter to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes, until it is smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add the baking soda.
- Divide the dough into 8 pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope and twist it into a pretzel shape.
- Boil the pretzels in the baking soda water for 30 seconds each, then place them on the baking sheet.
- Sprinkle the pretzels with coarse salt and bake for 12-15 minutes, until golden brown.
