Potato Gratin with Gruyere

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F.
  2. In a saucepan, combine the heavy cream, milk, garlic, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
  3. Add the potatoes to the saucepan and simmer for 10 minutes, until slightly softened.
  4. Transfer half of the potatoes to a baking dish, spreading them out evenly.
  5. Sprinkle half of the Gruyere cheese over the potatoes.
  6. Add the remaining potatoes to the baking dish, and top with the remaining cheese.
  7. Pour any remaining cream mixture from the saucepan over the potatoes.
  8. Bake for 45-60 minutes, until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden and bubbly.
