Pla Nueng Manao
Pla Nueng Manao is a classic Thai dish that features a whole fish steamed with lime juice, garlic, and chili. It's light, tangy, and incredibly flavorful.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Fresh mint - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Fresh cilantro - 1/4 cup, chopped
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Fish sauce - 1/4 cup
- Thai bird chilies - 3, finely chopped
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Lime juice - 1/2 cup
- Whole white fish - 1 (about 1.5 kg), cleaned and scaled
Let's Get Started
- Place the fish on a plate that fits inside your steamer. If your steamer is too small for the fish to lay flat, you can cut it into pieces.
- In a bowl, combine the lime juice, minced garlic, chopped chilies, fish sauce, and sugar. Stir until the sugar is dissolved.
- Pour half of the lime juice mixture over the fish, making sure it's well coated.
- Place the plate with the fish in the steamer. Cover and steam for about 15 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through.
- Once the fish is cooked, carefully remove the plate from the steamer. Pour the remaining lime juice mixture over the fish.
- Sprinkle the chopped cilantro and mint over the fish before serving.
