Ingredients - Serves 8

Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Brush a baking dish with melted butter.
  3. Place a sheet of phyllo dough in the baking dish and brush with melted butter.
  4. Repeat the previous step with half of the phyllo dough sheets.
  5. Sprinkle the chopped nuts evenly over the phyllo dough (optional).
  6. Place another sheet of phyllo dough on top and brush with melted butter.
  7. Repeat the previous step with the remaining phyllo dough sheets.
  8. Using a sharp knife, cut the layered phyllo dough into diamond or square shapes.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
  10. While the meshaltet is baking, prepare the honey syrup by combining honey, water, lemon juice, and ground cinnamon in a saucepan.
  11. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  12. Remove the baked meshaltet from the oven and immediately pour the hot honey syrup over it.
  13. Allow the meshaltet to cool and soak in the syrup for at least 1 hour before serving.
  14. Serve the meshaltet at room temperature and enjoy!
