These sweet and savory macarons are a unique treat, combining the flavors of maple and bacon.
Ingredients - Serves 12
- Powdered sugar - 2 cups
- Maple syrup - 1/4 cup
- Butter - 1/2 cup, softened
- Bacon - 6 slices, cooked and crumbled
- Maple extract - 1/2 teaspoon
- Granulated sugar - 1/4 cup
- Egg whites - 3 large
- Powdered sugar - 1 3/4 cups
- Almond flour - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 300°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a food processor, combine the almond flour and powdered sugar and process until fine.
- In a large bowl, beat the egg whites until foamy. Gradually add the granulated sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
- Fold in the almond flour mixture and maple extract until the batter is smooth.
- Pipe the batter onto the prepared baking sheets in 1-inch circles. Sprinkle half of the macarons with the crumbled bacon.
- Bake for 15 minutes, or until the macarons are set.
- While the macarons are baking, make the filling: Beat the butter until creamy, then beat in the maple syrup and powdered sugar until smooth.
- Once the macarons are cool, spread the filling on the flat side of a macaron without bacon. Top with a macaron with bacon, flat side down. Repeat with the remaining macarons and filling.
