Ingredients - Serves 8

Let's Get Started

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Spread half of the shredded phyllo dough in a round baking dish. Press it down firmly.
  3. Spread the cheese over the phyllo dough.
  4. Cover the cheese with the remaining phyllo dough, pressing down firmly.
  5. Pour the melted butter over the top of the phyllo dough.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
  7. While the kunefe is baking, make the syrup. Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the lemon juice and simmer for another 2 minutes.

  9. Sprinkle the crushed pistachios over the top.
  10. Serve the kunefe warm.
