Jansson's Temptation
Jansson's Temptation is a traditional Swedish dish made with potatoes, onions, anchovies, and cream.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Black pepper - To taste
- Salt - To taste
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Breadcrumbs - 1/2 cup
- Heavy cream - 300 ml
- Anchovies - 8 fillets, chopped
- Onion - 1 large, thinly sliced
- Potatoes - 1.5 kg, peeled and thinly sliced
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until softened and lightly browned.
- In a greased baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes. Sprinkle half of the chopped anchovies over the potatoes.
- Spread half of the cooked onions over the anchovies. Season with salt and black pepper.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining potatoes, anchovies, and onions.
- Pour the heavy cream over the layers, ensuring it covers the potatoes.
- Sprinkle breadcrumbs on top of the cream.
- Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 40 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.
- Serve hot as a main course or as a side dish.
