Italian Turkey Meatballs in Tomato Sauce

Ingredients - Serves 4
- Fresh basil - A handful, chopped
- Canned crushed tomatoes - 1 can (28 ounces)
- Onion - 1, chopped
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Italian seasoning - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Egg - 1
- Parmesan cheese - 1/2 cup, grated
- Breadcrumbs - 1/2 cup
- Ground turkey - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, garlic, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Form the mixture into meatballs, about 1 inch in diameter.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook until browned on all sides, about 10 minutes.
- Remove the meatballs from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the meatballs are cooked through.
- Stir in the chopped basil and serve.
