Hvalbiff
Hvalbiff is a traditional Norwegian dish, made from whale meat. The meat is marinated and then pan-fried to perfection. It's typically served with potatoes and a creamy sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Cream - 1/2 cup
- Potatoes - 4, boiled and mashed
- Ginger - 1 tablespoon, grated
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Honey - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 1/2 cup
- Whale steak - 4 pieces
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, honey, minced garlic, and grated ginger to make the marinade.
- Place the whale steaks in the marinade and let them sit for at least 2 hours, or overnight if possible.
- Heat a pan over medium-high heat. Remove the steaks from the marinade, reserving the marinade for later.
- Cook the steaks for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness.
- In the meantime, boil the potatoes until they're soft. Drain them and mash them with the cream, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the reserved marinade into the pan and let it simmer for a few minutes until it thickens into a sauce.
- Serve the whale steaks with the mashed potatoes and drizzle the sauce on top.
