Humba
Humba is a Filipino dish made with pork belly, soy sauce, and brown sugar.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Star anise - 2
- Water - 2 cups
- Black peppercorns - 1 teaspoon
- Bay leaves - 2
- Brown sugar - 1/4 cup
- Soy sauce - 1/2 cup
- Onion - 1, chopped
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Pork belly - 2 pounds, cubed
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat.
- Add the pork belly and cook until browned, about 10 minutes.
- Add the garlic, onion, soy sauce, brown sugar, bay leaves, black peppercorns, and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
- Add the star anise and season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Continue to simmer until the pork is tender, about 10 minutes.
- Serve hot with steamed rice.
