Hot Spring Rye Bread
This hearty and flavorful rye bread is perfect for chilly days. It has a dense texture and a hint of sweetness.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Caraway seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Molasses - 2 tablespoons
- Warm water - 1 1/2 cups
- Active dry yeast - 2 1/4 teaspoons
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- Rye flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the rye flour, all-purpose flour, and yeast.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the warm water and molasses until the molasses is dissolved.
- Pour the water mixture into the flour mixture and stir until a sticky dough forms.
- Add the salt and caraway seeds to the dough and mix well.
- Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Grease a loaf pan with vegetable oil.
- Transfer the risen dough to the greased loaf pan and smooth the top with wet hands.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Remove the bread from the pan and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
