Homemade Ketchup
This homemade ketchup recipe is made with fresh tomatoes, spices, and a touch of sweetness.
Ingredients - Serves 16
- Ground ginger - 1/4 teaspoon
- Ground allspice - 1/4 teaspoon
- Ground cloves - 1/4 teaspoon
- Ground cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Brown sugar - 1/4 cup
- Apple cider vinegar - 1/2 cup
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 medium, chopped
- Tomatoes - 2 pounds, chopped
Let's Get Started
- In a large saucepan, combine the chopped tomatoes, onion, and garlic.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, then reduce the heat and simmer for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Using an immersion blender or a regular blender, puree the mixture until smooth.
- Return the pureed mixture to the saucepan and add the apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and ginger.
- Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium-low heat and cook for an additional 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
- Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the ketchup cool completely.
- Transfer the homemade ketchup to sterilized jars or bottles and refrigerate until ready to use.
